PowerDVD 8 adds several fun and useful features to PowerDVD 7, while still maintaining the high quality of the essential features. The only points of dissapointment are with some inherent stability problems, and the removal of HD DVD support without a reduction in price. But these are minor quibbles that will not affect most users.
MoovieLive is an interesting service and does add value to PowerDVD, making is much more connected and in tune with the "Web 2.0" phenomenon. Movie Info can become useful if more people use the service and take the time to update the information in the database. Movie Collection is useful for those who want to keep a record of all the movies they have, although again it depends largely on the accuracy of the MoovieLive database. And Movie Remix is just something fun to play around with when you're bored ... again, if enough people use it, then downloading other people's fun remixes could be interesting.
PowerDVD 8 adds plenty to PowerDVD 7, although perhaps not so much in the usual areas of movie playback and format support. If you were happy with PowerDVD 7, then you might find some reasons to upgrade to version 8 to take advantage of the three new major additions (Info, Collection and Remix). However, those that were using PowerDVD 7 Ultra for HD DVD playback might be disappointed with the retail package, although less disappointed now that there's a solution to bringing back HD DVD support.
